Overview
This beautiful Park has often been called a “little germ” and rightly so. It is only ½ an hour by tarmac road from Arusha town, the safari center of Northern Tanzania. With mountains, valleys, lakes, and small plains clothed in green, it has a wonderful feeling of peace and solitude. It is dominated by Mount Meru, which at 4,566 m (14,980 ft) is the 5rd highest free standing mountain in Africa.
This second highest mountain in Tanzania offers unforgettable experience and serves as acclimatization refuge before climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Wildlife:
African Elephants: While not as numerous as in other parks, Arusha National Park is home to African elephants. They can often be spotted around the swamps and grasslands.
Giraffes: The park hosts both the Masai giraffe and the smaller but no less striking reticulated giraffe. They are commonly seen grazing on the grassy plains.
Buffaloes: Large herds of African buffaloes roam the park, particularly in the Ngurdoto Crater area.
Zebras: Plains zebras are abundant in Arusha National Park, often seen grazing alongside other herbivores.
Antelopes: Various antelope species can be found here, including the elegant impalas, bushbucks, and waterbucks.
Warthogs: These robust and amusing creatures are quite common in the park and can often be seen foraging for food.
Leopards: While elusive, leopards inhabit the forests of Arusha National Park. They are mainly active during the night, making sightings rare but thrilling.
Black and White Colobus Monkeys: Arusha National Park is one of the few places where you can spot these striking primates. They can often be seen swinging through the trees in the montane forest.
Baboons: Olive baboons are prevalent in the park and can be quite bold in their interactions with visitors, especially around picnic areas.
Birdlife: The park is a haven for birdwatchers, with over 400 bird species recorded. Highlights include flamingos at the Momella Lakes, various birds of prey, and colorful forest species like turacos and trogons.
